Korean Companies Sweep Honors at CES 2013 Innovation Awards

The winners of the CES 2013 Innovation Awards were announced on November 12 and Korean superstars Samsung and LG celebrated a major haul. The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) bills itself as the “place to see, touch, feel and understand the future of consumer technology.”

Samsung proudly won 27 Innovation Awards, including two for Best of Innovations, and four for Eco-Design. Samsung’s 85-inch UHD TV won a Best of Innovation Award for “life-like picture quality in ultra HD resolution with over 8 million pixels.” That’s four times the resolution of a Full HD display, in case you’re counting.

Samsung’s phones and tablets like the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet also took home honors. Other winning products included the Exynos 5 Dual processor, the Series 9 Premium Ultrabook, and the Samsung Smart TV Camera.

LG Electronics garnered 10 CES 2013 Innovation Awards, including a Best of Innovation Award for its Ultra-High-Definition CINEMA 3D Smart TV. It’s the largest Ultra Definition (UD) 3D TV in the world and offers “immersive entertainment in stunning ultra definition with a combination of CINEMA 3D technology and Smart TV features.”

Devices such as the LG Optimus G, a “superphone” that touts a True HD IPS Plus display for great visuals, also won awards. In the Home Appliance category, CES recognized LG for its Smart ThinQ technology that “takes advantage of the appliances’ Internet connectivity to help consumers save time and money.”
