Tech Heaven – Techno Mart

For some, it’s shoes. For others, it might be books. But for those whose lives are only complete with the latest gadgets, in eastern Seoul there’s a colossal shrine to electronics known as Techno Mart.

Though its name might be a bit misleading, Techno Mart is not a club but a huge mall that stretches floor after floor with every device you could dream of.

Photo aficionados flock to the floor that is dedicated to selling all types of cameras and video recorders and other picture taking paraphernalia. Interior decorators might be found congregating by cool home appliances and accessories. Music lovers browse through the endless CD offerings.

Gadget geeks can even bring along their non-tech loving friends, as there’s something for everyone. The lower level sells clothing and there are plenty of delicious restaurants. It’s also right by the Dongseoul Bus Terminal, in case you want to run away from said non-tech loving friend because well, who doesn’t like technology?? There’s even a super high-tech movie theater, where I go to watch the latest action films in 4D. (The 4D movie experience is worth another blog post on its own).

I also frequent Techno Mart because it’s a great place to get nice, unique gifts that don’t have to break the bank. For example, Techno Mart has a ton of cute accessories, similar to the portable panda speakers below. You can’t go wrong with panda speakers in my opinion.

Techno Mart is a electronics mecca with products made locally and around the world. Even if you’re not in the market for a specific device, it’s definitely worth a trip just to check everything out.

How to get there
If you find yourself in Korea, here’s how you can check out Techno Mart for yourself.

  • In Seoul, take subway line no. 2 (light green) to Gangbyeon Stn. on the east end of town. Station exits 1 and 2 connect directly to the basement.
  • If you’re coming from outside of Seoul, hop on one of the 22 bus lines to Dong Seoul Bus Terminal. It’s about a five minute walk to Techno Mart. Just look for the giant building pictured at the top of this post.
