Galaxy S3 Overview: A look at all the smart upgrades

Charles Darwin is credited with saying, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” And change is something that we see a lot with Samsung’s new Galaxy S3, which has made its way into the headlines of most tech and gadget media since its launch in May.

Samsung has once again wowed the world with latest Galaxy S series smartphones, which the company says was inspired by nature: naturally responding to your movement and sensation giving it a more human quality.

The Galaxy S3′s success was foreshadowed by numerous praises and rapturous reviews from the tech community. CNET called it “the Ferrari of android phones” and Matt Warman, The Telegraph’s consumer technology editor, went so far as to say he almost forgot that he was actually using a phone and not a full-fledged computer.

You may wonder what makes this phone so special, so I’ve prepared a list of changes that we see in the new Galaxy S3. These are new for now, but they may very well set the standard for future smart phone technology.

Outside: The Galaxy S3 has a natural, ergonomic shape holding a brilliant 4.8 inch super AMOLED screen and a finely tuned camera. It’s very thin and surprisingly light for such a big phone with dimensions of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm and weighing in at 133 grams.

Two colors are available, which Samsung also says were inspired by nature, pebble blue and white. The plastic material used for the device may not appeal to everyone, but it definitely does not either look or feel cheap.

Inside: Powered by a quad core 1.4 Ghz processor and a great GPU, this is the fastest and most powerful Android phone on the market. It runs Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.4), overlayed with Samsung’s TouchWiz 5.0 user interface.

Features: You’ll find many features on the Galaxy S3 that aren’t available on any other phones. Smart Stay uses the front camera to see whether you are looking at the screen or not and keeps the screen active for as long as you’re looking at it. S Beam is similar to NFC and it enables you to share files on your phone with other Galaxy S3 users.

Direct Call automatically places a call when you hold your phone to your ear with a contact on screen. If there are notifications waiting for you, the phone vibrates to remind you when you pick it up.

If you’re dying to try out these cool features, chances are you might have to wait a bit as the phone is extremely popular, garnering more than 9 million pre-orders worldwide. (The iPhone 4s managed around 4 million.) Samsung just announced that they would ship 10 million units by the end of July, with launch on more than 300 carriers.

Samsung has been promoting their ad message, “How to Live Smart,” for a very long time, asking consumers to live smarter, happier, more satisfied lives with their smart devices. Once people experience the Samsung Galaxy S3 for themselves, it’s likely the same question will linger in all of their minds: “How could Samsung possibly come up with anything smarter than this?” Specification Chart:
