How a Korean Medical Doctor Cured Computer Viruses
How frustrating would it be if your computer were infected with a virus that had no cure? Have you ever wondered how today’s anti-virus software was born?
When medical doctor Ahn Chul-soo found his computer infected with a virus called (c)brain it wasn’t just a life chaning moment for him – it was a moment that spawned a new industry for Korea. Since then, Ahn has devoted himself to curing computer diseases instead of human ones..
His efforts crystallized when he invented Korea’s first anti-virus program named “V1” in 1988, and this year marks its 24th anniversary!
In the intervening years, AhnLab’s antivirus software has evolved to become one of the most sophisticated and technologically advanced suites in the world.
V3, the most up-to-date of AhnLab’s vaccine series, incorporates the company’s proprietary cloud computing technology, more commonly known as the AhnLab Smart Defense. Thanks to AhnLab’s pioneering efforts, V3 is capable of inoculating computers against malicious codes, whichincrease by more than 50,000 each day.
V3 is a package that combines AhnLab’s technologies including DNA Scan and New Framework, to detect viruses more quickly than competitors. Its high success rate for early virus detection makes it a go-to choice for many Korean companies and individuals.
AhnLab is currently looking for ways to incorporate its technologies into new platforms like smart phones, social networks and cloud computing.
Recently, AhnLab partnered with Samsung Electronics to create the safe smartphone environment. Through this partnership, AhnLab will provide Samsung with AhnLab Mobile Smart Defense (AMSD), which will scan and detect any malicious code in any and all apps listed on Samsung’s own app store.
AhnLab’s continuous efforts have provided safety and security to tens of millions of users worldwide, and it looks certain that their endeavor won’t end here.
